Week 1, Day 2

Today was troublesome. Some of you may not know, I'm not a big fan of horror movies. Just three days ago, my siblings were watching Paranormal Activity real live video and I can tell you, scenes from the film just wont seem to leave my mind. Couldn't sleep properly because of it. I fell asleep around 12.10am and woke up at 2-ish am. I refuse to go back to sleep. Afraid something will appear if I did. Its tough being a fraidy cat.

At 4am, I started to get hungry. Made some green tea with sis and shared a slice of bread with jam and butter. I had a can of Nescafe-Black roast too. Later around 9? or was it 10? Had a plain bread and cheese sandwich. No butter, veggies or anything in it but cheese. Apparently, I didn't take a picture of it.

I had my lunch around 1pm. Since there was nothing much in the fridge, I just stick to simple stuff. Filled my plate with torn wholemeal bread, cherry tomatoes, kaktoogi (깍두기*) and kimchi (김치*).

Such a wonderful colour on the plate

I didn't do any exercise though. I was too tired. Couldn't think straight due to sleepiness. I took a nap around 3? 4? and woke up again (I didn't even get to look at the time). Dad called and asked to searched an important documentation letter. Searched practically the whole house and again, couldn't think straight. I guess I really need a good night rest. I fell asleep again after that. Woke up around 6 something. Took my bath and had my dinner at 8.10pm. I didn't feel like eating much, so I just had a bowl of rich with veggies - kimchi, tomato cherries and lettuce leaf.

I'm vegan for the day!! Lol!
Had some orange juice to go with it. Quite tasty for me (I have a weird taste on mixing food). Lately I my appetite seems to be low..might be because of my month.. My intake on water today seems to be very low. A cup of green tea, a can of nescafe coffee, a glass of orange juice and 3 glasses of water? Sheesh...I need to stock up on water more..

--------------- Information ---------------

*깍두기- Hot radish "kimchi" (Kaktugi) is a type of winter "kimchi". Radish is the main material, and red pepper, garlic, ginger, green onion, salt-fermented shrimp and etc, are added. Whole radish is washed, trimmed, and cut into dices. It also has a process of fermentation.

*김치- Kimchi is any one of numerous traditional Korean pickled dishes made of vegetables with varied seasonings. Its most common manifestation is the spicy cabbage variety.

Week 1, Day 1 - Original Date 27/12/09

Can't believe I missed posting my diary! Had couple of stuff on my mind and somehow, thoughts clash, lol.. Any who.. Didn't slept much today; probably because I slept late again (; ̄ω ̄) as usual. Though I did wake up early somehow..unusually strange ( ̄m ̄〃)..

I have good news and bad news.

The bad new is I didn't take any pics of what I ate today..but the good news is, I remembered what I ate and I'll post pics from the net of what I ate (。・ω・。) so please bare with me and my nonsense..

After waking up today, I practically had nothing to eat at home ( ̄u ̄;) Searched through the whole kitchen to find something to munch on.

(FYI: I didn't add this into my first info on my diet, but I tried starving by eating once a day and having two really small meals per day and end up getting bad gastric due to it. I had to skip school 3-4 times a week for 5 days just because of my bad gastric..yup, I go to school once or twice a week ONLY..and it sucked BIG time! I practically flunked all my tests and most probably my O's too. Back to topic.. because of my "bad" gastric, I had to have a proper meal *evenly proportioned* every 3-4 hours per day as told by my doctor. The doctor told me that I either ate too much or too little or ate too much of spicy food..as guilty as I am, I admit doing all of that. I just love spicy food!

As mentioned above, I have to eat every 3 to 4 hours per day to keep my gastric at bay. As a result, gastric. Thankfully, my dad was on the way home from work. So he packed us (mum, bro, sis & I) lunch. For lunch, or should i say brunch, I had a Kelantanese food called Nasi Kerabu*. I didn't each much though, not that hungry I suppose.

After that, I practically continued what I normally do. In the evening, around 7-8pm, parents decided to go out to shop for groceries so my sis and I tagged along. We had our dinner around 9-ish at an Indian restaurant called "NZ". I had a traditional Indian food called Nasi Briyani*. Somehow today, I didn't eat much again..lol

Reached home around 11, i think, stored the goods and get an hour of rest. Soon after I went to bed at 12.

*Nasi Kerabu literally means "rice salad" (rice with raw vegetables) which is a regional specialty from the state of Kelantan on the east coast of Malaysia. The vegetables consists of bean sprouts, cucumbers, onions, long beans, lemongrass and polygonum leaves. Some ingredients may vary depending on the seller.

*Nasi Briyani is a popular dish amongst Muslims and commonly found in South Asia. It's made up of spiced rice and usually served with beef, mutton or chicken. The spices and condiments used in biryani may include but are not limited to: ghee, peas, beans, cumin, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, coriander and mint leaves, ginger, onions, and garlic. The dish may be served with dahi chutney or Raita, korma, curry, a sour dish of eggplant (brinjal) or a boiled egg.

Week 1, What I've been doing so far

I woke up around 10 in the morning but fell right back asleep, and so waking up dreadfully late at 5 in the afternoon. I got quite hungry and had a cup of ramen (I know, I know..but I just crave it somehow)..then later had my dinner - roti canai (pronounced as "chanai" - is a type of flat bread found in Malaysia, often sold in Indian stalls or better known as "Mamak" stall) with a bit of curry and sugar. Roti canai taste best with sugar.

Weighed myself before I hate a cup of ramen, 57.7kg around 126.9lbs
And of course, I weigh myself after eating my dinner, 58.4kg around 128.5lbs
That is around 0.7kg, 1.5lbs!! ( ̄u ̄;)

Roti Canai

Declaring now that I'm gonna stop eating this and follow up my old menus. Goodbye delicious, delicious ramen ヽ(T ω Tヽ)

Entrée - A begginning

Yesterday, I was looking through some webbies to search for some ideas on hairstyling, nail art & what to buy for this coming new year (I have such a soft spot for JK outfits) and found this website on hairstyling and nail art.
Sadly, it was all in Japanese.
Like a lucky idiot I was, I "clicked" here and "clicked" there and saw an article entry about a diet blog diary and actually find it quite interesting (o ̄∀ ̄)ノ”
I've been dieting awhile now, watching my weight through my ups & downs for the past 2 years and currently I'm stuck at my weight.
Here is a short summary of my history on diet:

BEFORE DIETING
  • Ate every 3-5 hours a day including after hours
  • Slept late all the time - my "normal" sleeping hour starts around 4 to 8am, ends at 1 to 7pm (Yup...I slept more than 12 hours per day)
  • I would continue eating even after I felt full - especially if it tastes good
  • Skipped meals to just shed those kg/lbs.
  • NEVER, and i repeat, NEVER!, ever exercise at all
  • I had an addict on computer games so I tend to eat most of the time in front of my computer
  • My regular exercise was walking inside the house for less than 30 seconds and most of the time, I was either lying down or finding something to munch on.
  • Regularly, I can eat about 2-3 bowls of rice (on total 4-5 bowls per day) and my basic menus would be pizza (who doesn't love those melted cheese and crispy pepperoni?), McDonald (especially Big Mac and fries), fried stuff - includes fried noodle, fried rice, fried tofu, fried chicken.
  • I looooove carbonated drinks - Coke, F'n'N, 100+, 7Up, you name it. I rarely drink plain water unless i get thirsty. My normal intake of water is 2-4 glasses a day.
  • My family and I would regularly have Domino's, KFC, McDonald's, packed foods - fried noodles/rice, 2 to 3 times per mth, each.
  • I would always say this to myself - "Tomorrow, I'll start dieting" and get another bowl of rice.
Horrible isn't it? To be honest, I can't believe that I lived that way back then. It's really embarrassing to write about it but it's something that helped me to push myself to work harder so that I'll never be the same person again.

DURING DIETING

2007 — October/December
  • Starting weight - 80kg/176lbs , lost 3kg/6.6lbs after Raya celebration \therefore \!\, Current weight - 77kg/169.4lbs
  • No more rice - replaced white rice with wholemeal bread as a substitute
  • Ditch the crisp and the yolk - Had eggs boiled instead of fried, throwing away the yolk
  • Stopped eating fried food - I didn't completely stopped it, just slowly cutting down my intakes of it until i could get control of it
  • Started exercising - I started with jogging at first and found it very hard..After awhile, it slowly got easier
  • Special occasion menu - Pizza, McDonald, KFC and other junk food are changed to be eaten on special occasions like birthdays or parties.
  • 8 hours of sleep - regular sleeping time starts 10-11pm, ends at 6-8am. I sleep more when I'm really tired, especially after jogging.
  • Exercise before dinner - burns fat while having dinner
  • Drink more water - change my usual intake of water to 6-8 glass of water
  • Stopped skipping meals - skip meals = twice the hunger later, meals on time = less intake of food
  • Snacks - wholemeal cereals, fruit bars, yogurt, fruits snacks helps me from over eating myself
It's not much that changed actually. I still eat the way I do before but lesser intakes now and I have a more craving for wholemeal bread now (゚∀゚)!!

THE VERDICT

2008 January/February
  • Current weight - 66kg/145.2lbs, a total lost of 11kg/24.2lbs!
  • Stopped eating fried food, having more boiled and raw (the greens) food instead
  • Stopped skipping meals
  • Exercising regularly - every 3-4 times a week, running an hour and 30minutes of walk
  • More energy!! Most of the time I'm always tired to do anything
  • Better complexion ♥
It was great!! Never felt better in a long time! Never saw that 66kg in a long time!! The last time I was in that weight, was 3-4years ago, in my year 8 in high school! (I was an over weight kid for all of my childhood) I tried dieting and all before, just started small, finally i found something that works..lol..

TO DATE

2009 September/November

Current weight - 58kg/127.6lbs, lost 8kg/17.6lbs = a total of 3+11+8=22kg/48.4lbs!! The greatest achievement I have ever done. From a size XXL to a size L/M.

BACK TO TOPIC

So my current problem now is that my weight have been stucked to 58kg+/-
I guess this is what some would call my real weight now? I'm slowly coming back to old habits - sleeping late, having snacks during late hours, getting cravings of ice creams/ramen cups/fried food. So I'm gonna try a new method, this blog. Making my very first food blog diary. I'm not sure how it may result or what may be the outcome but what I know is that I'm 10kg away from my ideal weight.

Target and Goal: Lost a minimum of 7kg, maximum of 10kg before February 2010. Starting December 27th, 2009.

Wish me luck!
